Bangladesh is a land of canals and rivers. The canals and rivers remain filled to the brim for several months. So, the people living by the sides of canals or rivers usually go from one place to another by boat. As I live in a town from my childhood, a journey by boat is a thrilling experience in my life.
During the last Ramadan vacation, I went to our village home to spend few days with my grandparents. One day, one of my cousins proposed to make a journey by boat. I readily agreed to the proposal. We decided to make a journey to the village of my cousin's friend. We prepared for the journey. The date was also fixed. On that day, we took some necessary things. We were four in number.
We hired a big boat. Our boat journey started at 8 a.m. The sky was clear and the weather was fine. The river was full to the brim. Our boatmen rowed for a while and then set sail. The boat was moving smoothly. There were small waves in the river. The scenery of both sides of the river attracted us very much. There were green paddy fields and rows of trees. We saw many boys and girls bathing in the river; fishermen were catching fish and village women were fetching water in pitchers.
After an hour, we reach a market. The boatmen cast anchor and we got down. We bought rice, egg and a big hilsha. We cooked our lunch on the boat and ate to our heart's contents. The boatmen took rest for a while and then raised anchor. At last, we reached our destination in the afternoon. Five years have passed, the journey is still fresh in my mind. It gave me much pleasure. It is one of the most memorable days of my life. I will never forget it.
